PROPOSED RESOLUTION

PETER N. SILVESTRI, DEBORAH SIMS and BOBBIE L. STEELE, County Commissioners
PROPOSED RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Cook County, the second most populous county in the nation, with more than 5.4 million residents, would be proud to serve as the official host of the 2006 National Association of County Officials (NACo) Annual Conference and Exposition; and
WHEREAS, as the only national organization representing county governments, NACo’s membership includes two-thirds of counties from across the United States and over 80% of the nation’s population; and
WHEREAS, since its inception in 1935, NACo has served as the national advocate of county government, ensuring that the voices of the United States’ 3,066 counties are heard in the White House and the halls of Congress; and
WHEREAS, each year, NACo’s Annual Conference and Exposition brings together some 4,000 County officials and offers a unique opportunity to discover innovative ways to address the challenges of county governance by evaluating issues and policies through committee meetings and a wide array of educational seminars and workshops; and
WHEREAS, with the rich cultural and ethnic diversity of Chicago serving as the backdrop for the NACo Annual Conference and Exposition, Cook County’s selection as host in 2006 could generate record attendance, encourage new, dynamic connections among the more than 2,000 member counties, and greatly contribute to the economic vitality of our county.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the President will notify NACo of the Boards interest to proceed with the preparation for the 2006 NACo Annual Conference and Exposition in Cook County and we, the President and the Members of the Cook County Board of Commissioners, do hereby will create a NACo 2006 Task Force comprised of the appropriate officials and civic and business representatives as designated by the President to explore the economic feasibility of to implement hosting the 2006 NACo Annual Conference and Exposition through partnerships with the business community and other enterprises.

Commissioner Silvestri, seconded by Commissioner Peraica, moved to suspend the rules so that this matter may be considered. The motion carried unanimously.
Commissioner Maldonado, seconded by Commissioner Steele, moved that the Resolution be approved and adopted, as amended. The motion carried unanimously.

Pursuant to Rule 4-30, Randall K. Blakey, Spokesperson for Citizens for Our Community, addressed the President and Members of the Cook County Board of Commissioners. Mr. Blakey spoke against the establishment of a Ho-Chunk Southland Entertainment Complex in the Village of Lynwood.
